I just got this Octane Fitness xR4c trainer last week. It took me a few hours to assemble on my own. I wasted a fair bit of time just going back and forth to the garage to get one tool after another. There are a couple hex wrenches included with the hardware, but not the other tools that are necessary to assemble the entire trainer. Hint: you need Philips #1 and #2 screwdrivers and a 1/2" socket with the associated ratchet handle. If you're like me, you might prefer your own hex wrenches over the enclosed ones, too. Before moving on to the trainer itself, let me comment on the assembly. Top on the list is the back of the seat. The plastic is not shaped quite right to simply put it in place and drive in the screws. In fact, I had to substitute the enclosed ones with a couple of my own screws - slightly longer ones - in order to make it work. The instructions tell you to attach some of the wiring, but not all of it. Go figure. The ends of two of the feet come detached, but the photo shows them already on the trainer, and there are heavy duty rubber ends for something. I have yet to figure out where THOSE go yet.The trainer arrived in heavy cardboard, delivered by a special delivery service that handles large, heavy objects. They placed the box just inside my front door, per my request, and then I had help moving the trainer to its eventual spot. None of the needed parts were missing, and everything arrived in very good condition. Be aware that this is equipment that is heavy to move. Have a mat in place before you do anything else. Being that I assembled it on my own, I had to allow enough space around it to be able to assemble all the parts, but on the whole, for an elliptical trainer, I think the footprint falls in the smaller range. I ordered a 30" wide mat that was a bit too long, and then cut it down to 60" long. That leaves 3-4" of space all around the feet of the trainer. As for using the trainer, I have actually only ridden it a few time thus far. For me, it's a little awkward to get on and off of it due to a bad leg, but I think it'll get easier over time. My impression from my brief exposure to it is that the elliptical operates very smoothly, whether using both the arms and feet, or only one or the other. I have not experimented with most of the various controls yet, but plan to over the coming days. After I have had some time to play around with it, I will return and update my review. A description of the machine that I read before ordering it from Amazon indicated that the machine was made in the U.S., which was a plus for me, but I have come to realize that it is made in Taiwan. That was a disappointment. Nonetheless, the quality of the machine seems quite good (other than the back of the seat, perhaps), and it really makes no noise to speak of, so it would not interfere with watching a TV or listening to music, for example.I rated this equipment five stars. I was tempted to rate it 4 stars because of the hassles in assembling it. Now that I am past the assembly, though, the equipment definitely seems like five-star material.
