5Great machine at this price point
By paul2earth
Pretty much everything that I expected at this price range. Delivery from Amazon was super fast even with free shipping. The shipper won't take it up stairs, so I had it delivered to my garage. After unpacking, all parts were light enough to easily get up to my 2nd story room - except for the main flywheel component which was a bit of a workout, but doable by one person (though I'd recommend two).Packaging was very good and well protected, and everything arrived in good condition. Step-by-step packaging of the nuts and bolts greatly simplified assembly, and I had the whole thing together in about 2 1/2 hours. Added some extra lithium grease on the axles to ward off any squeaks, and once together, everything fired up just fine and the elliptical worked great with no extra noises. Feels very solid, and gives a great workout with plenty of resistance and up-hill elevation. Display unit is just the right size to hold a tablet or book, and drink holder, mp3 jack, and all controls are easy to access and all work well. Programming was easy, and the improved display on the LS13.0E-2 over the previous year's model (LS13.0E) was worth the extra $100.I usually cap out at 4 stars unless something is exceptional, but I really like this unit and after putting it together, I feel confident that it will give good long-term service. I considered the Sole E35 and the Costco-sold Xterra FS5.8E, but settled on the Livestrong based on reviews, features, and aesthetics (price was the same for all). Feel good about the choice and contributing to the Livestrong foundation as they struggle to get past Lance-the-liar.

4This Machine was Worth the Purchase
By T. Franklin
For me, this machine is perfect - I am so glad I bought it. Even the delivery was excellent - the guy was nice enough to put it in my basement where I planned to assemble it. My daughter and I (14) put this together as well. We had it together in about a little under 2 hours. So far so good. I've used it and am very satisfied with it. I do notices that the machine does somewhat push you forward but that's no big deal to me, it's not really enough to notice. I'll definitely update later if I find that this machine disappoints after having it longer. I'm on my way down to put in a work out - so I gotta go!

3Great... if you ignore the many minor issues
By A. Bradford
A replacement for a same price range, different brand unit, this Livestrong 13.0E v2 was a heavily researched purchase. My bad.Overall, it's a fine machine, or could be.For home users, the two saved profiles are nice (but it's dumb to spend five minutes beeping "okay" to every step of that custom program every time you hit start). The visual display is fine (but there is no reason why calories and heart rate should be on two different click-to-view screens). The incline ramp makes for a much better workout than a immobile elliptical (though when it's moving, you'll have visions of an aging garbage truck running its compactor).Clearly, it's the parentheses that kill the stars. For every neat feature, it seems there's a sigh and an asterisk.Let's try another one.Quality packaging included a partial wooden frame under the cardboard (unfortunately, this did not prevent stress-bent discoloration of plastic around the flywheel, nor a full break in said plastic on the other side).See? More parentheses.Yes, contacting Livestrong was not the end of the world, and yes, they will send some technician with replacement parts at some point, but for this kind of cash, the unit should arrive alive. And if there is a problem, there should be only one.As this unit doesn't come assembled, it gives you time to think. For example: this cost how much again? The screws should be fabricated of depleted uranium... or, maybe they could just include a couple extra ones?Assembly also means you know what you broke, and you know what you didn't break, but is broken. On mine, the heart rate monitor is (also) broken. That's probably okay, because the heart rate sensors are only on the inner, non-adjustable, hobbit ergonomics, motionless horrible T-Rex baby hat-rack arms that have slippery metal strips, and which make no sense at all to hold onto throughout the entire duration of a workout. The exterior hungry mantis arms swish around like groping scissors, and it would be a disaster even if the HR actually registered in BPM instead of... nothing.[Note: the larger, swinging arms can be deleted somewhat gracefully, plastic V tips, at the time of assembly -- but that rather defeats the purpose of a full-body workout. Then again, so does not having heart rate sensors at the location of half of that full body.]Back to what doesn't work. Also DOA were two of the motorized incline buttons (10% and 20% -- oddly, 100% doesn't take you vertical, because it's 100% of... some other percent?) as well as the first two "program" buttons, which form an "L" shape of four dead buttons. Worth every penny! The fan. Is it broken? Hard to say. If you enjoy the sound of angry bees without the usual air movement of a mean swarm, the fan is awesome. And no, the fan isn't why you buy an elliptical, but if you buy one that has a fan, then it could make an effort. Noise doesn't evaporate sweat.Update: several minutes logged without further incident; stopping to log that the incline ramp is not dead. Not yet. Although this ignores the assorted buttons that control said ramp, which are, in fact, quite dead. But with the manual for warm-up reading material, it's also worth noting that the warranty for the mechanism of the ramp contains a special exemption from the otherwise 5-year "parts" and is instead... merely under 1-year warranty.Argh. That's the sort of fine print easily missed before you buy. The sound the incline ramp motor produces suggests that 1) you, my friend, are really, really fat, 2) never mind, it sounds awful even when you get off, and 3) yup, it's under warranty for one year, not five. The power cord. Like screws and bolts, for 1300 clams, it would be so very, very nice if the a/c cord were long enough to plug into... a nearby outlet, maybe? It's six feet long, plus or minus six feet. The cord spills out from the left front clumsily, and the reason for the estimate on length is due to it being a tense coil of the most unyielding petroleum derivative you can possibly imagine. If only the flywheel sheathing were so durable! So I hate this elliptical, right?Well, no, not really. When it comes down to it, this specific machine has some broken plastic and requires new electronics in places. It could easily be a case of bad luck.As an example of the breed, it matches what others have said: it's very smooth, it's quiet (err, except for the fan), and the resistance can go to insanity. The rest are primarily petty complaints, but petty can be useful, because right now there's only one (five star) review, and the petty bits can help identify trends. It's petty to note there are "up to 10" segments visible on the visual display, yet you will be asked to program 15 segments if you do a 90-minute custom program... which means you can't see the full curve of your resistance, not all at once. Then the incline is entirely separate for that same custom program. You'll fight the aging process by pushing your brain to remember 15 settings of resistance while establishing your 15 settings of incline (of which you can only see 10)! Not.Even if it were not broken, for the price, petty seems fair. And so does a three-star rating.
