5♥ it so far
By D. Box
I just purchased this machine [along with a can of WD 40] and I have to say, it's great and a great price! [I purchased it from Amazon, so I didn't have to pay the shipping, which would of cost me around $60.00]***[Update 01/17/2013] Someone commented and suggested that WD40 is more of a temporary fix, so look into buying some lubrication other than this :)Assembling:Putting it together took me 3 hours [I was working alone]. The instructions SUCKED, I probably could of been done faster if the manual was done better.Storage:The machine is pretty compact, I use it in my living room and just slide it in the corner afterwards.Noise:I haven't had any issues with noise with this machine, most likely because I used the WD40 on it. Also, it doesn't make noise on the floor [I live in a 2 story 2 family home on the 2nd floor and it doesn't make noise downstairs for my neighbors].Experience:I am a 28 year old woman, 5'7 and 225 pounds at a size 16. I brought this machine to slim down and start a healthy lifestyle. First off, this machine [according to the book I got inside], will hold up to 300 pounds. It's sturdy [doesn't wobble while using it] and gave me one heck of a workout. I tried it out the first time for 30 minutes and I was dripping in sweat afterward even though my ac was on full blast. This machine WORKS you out!My suggestions:You should definitely buy a can of WD40 with your purchase or from any store that carries it. SPRAY all the parts even though they're already greased, especially the tension wire [while you're assembling it]. I had issues the first time with the tension wire [even though the resistance was on 1, it felt like it was on 100!]. A good lubrication with the WD40 did the trick. Also, I sprayed inside the triangular silver part [where the pedals are] with the WD40 and everything smoothed out.I love this machine and I'm glad that I invested in it. With this machine, a change in my eating habits and consistency, I know that I will reach my fitness goals!---------------------2 month updateThe machine is still doing great, and I know it's because of the weekly sprays with the WD 40. I use it 4 times a week for about 30 minutes to an hour and I'm down 22 pounds :) Maintenance is KEY everyone, PLEASE spray the parts, you'll get a better workout that way!----------------------Update: 12-15-2012The machine is still going strong :) I'm have now lost a total of 37 pounds.NONE of the parts are breaking, no strange noises and I KNOW it's because I lube it up and clean it. It's like a car, if you don't give it an oil change, it's not gonna perform that great, so I continue to spray with the WD 40. Some where still having questions about the machine still being too tough, so let me explain a little more what I do:1. I shake up the WD40 can and spray inside the silver triangle part [where the pedals are, I spray the tension wire [I unscrew the knob loose, spray inside where the cord is], and I spray all the flexible metal parts/joints [I don't know how else to describe it - I'll post a video review or something showing the places where I spray the WD40 in a day or two]2. I jump on the machine and pedal for a minute or two [to make sure the oil gets inside the parts], jump off and wait about 30 minutes [so the parts loosen up. Then I get back on and do my workout. After my workout, I clean it down with some wipes [removing sweat, dust...] and slide it back in the corner.***I figure that the machines are sitting in some warehouse for months, years even, so it would make sense that the parts are tough when you first assemble it and use it. Mine was tough for a whole week before it loosen, and for that first week, I sprayed every day and used it every day. So, I figure that consistent use and spraying will help fix the issue. I dunno, hope this helps someone :)If anyone has anymore questions about this machine, let me know :)**** I tried to upload a short 1 minute video showing exactly where I spray the machine, but the file is 'too large' [sighs]... I'll try some other time...Update - [1/30/2013]Hey everyone, just adding an update and answering some more questions:Well, for my weight, I am now at 178, bringing my overall weight loss so far to 47 pounds. I'm at a size 10 :)**I will tell the truth - around the end of December I started stalling [the weight wasn't coming off as fast as is was in the beginning - which is usually the case for most people]. I did continue using the elliptical, but I also added in some other exercises [for upper body, especially my arms]. I have HUGE arms [they're like thighs on my arms, lol] and I had to do A LOT of arm exercises [pushups, dumbbells...], to shed that extra fat that remained as I began to lose weight. I also go jogging when the weather is nice here in Long Island, NY and get some fresh air. I think switching up your routine will not only get you out of a weight loss stall but also give you variety, which will keep you from getting bored easily.******I also wanted to encourage anyone who is on their own healthy living/ weight loss journey to keep going! Weight loss is something YOU have to decide to do for YOURSELF. Trust me, it's HARD WORK, a combination of eating right and moving your body but YOU CAN DO IT! It might take you awhile to get use to a routine that works for YOU but once you do, go hard, go strong! It's NEVER too late to start taking care of yourself! Some tips:1. Take pics, maybe once a month or a before, middle and after pic to see where you've come from - This REALLY motivated me to keep going - People were telling me that I was losing weight, but I didn't see it until I looked back at pics I took of myself before - what a shock that was!2. If you're someone who obsesses over numbers on the scale, do weekly, or bi-weekly weight ins. Sometimes checking everyday is discouraging [even though you're losing inches]. I weigh myself on Sundays in the mornings as soon as I get up.3. Buy yourself some goal clothes and document the improvements - For example - I brought a pair of size 8 jeans. When I first started, I took a pic and the jeans could only get up to my ankles -lol-. The next pics showed the jeans going up ever so slowly. I can now get them on [but their still tight], but what a change from where I started! So buy a goal dress, pants, bathing suit [summer will be here before we know it] whatever you want!4. Try different foods so you won't get bored. Please don't stick to 1 food that you eat, try new healthier things.5. Once you develop self control, treat yourself to a snack here and there. If you want a bag of chips, have SOME [not ALL - lol]. Or even, buy those portion sized snacks they sell here on amazon [I buy crasains, mixed nuts, popcorn....]****Small update - 2-22-2013 - Knee concerns: If you have any kind of knee issues, you should research which type of elliptical machine is best [so you won't hurt/injure/irritate your knees]. My mom came over for a couple of days and attempted to use the machine, but was having knee problems with it.... There are different types of elliptical machines [rear drive, front drive and center drive] and they all have different slopes. This elliptical machine slope is more slanted then the ones she's use to using at LA Fitness, so this one caused her some pain. So I would HIGHLY recommend that if you have any kind of knee problems that you talk to your doctor or a trainer and ask them what type of elliptical would be best for your delicate knees :)

5Wonderful Machine - Horrific Instructions
By J. A. Glasgow
Let me just say that whomever it was that "wrote" the instructions for this machine should have his brain donated to science. The fact that this "person" can breathe and write at the same time is an amazing accomplishment! The second person that should win 'drunkest employee of the year', is the genius that came up with the "all-in-one" tools that you use to put the machine together. They are neat looking, yes, but functional? NO. If and when you buy this machine, remember to have a socket set handy, or a sledge hammer. The reason you ask? The center of the "all-in-one" tool-set is a hole that is supposed (in theory) to tighten bolts on the bottom of the foot-pedals. Problem is, there are a bunch of metal posts that stick up beside the bolt head, thus making the tightening of the bolt head next to impossible (you can get it to turn, but only in 1/8th of an inch, turns). The machine itself:The machine is expertly packed and it got here in two days...it looks sharp and expensive, which is odd considering it costs less than machines sold at wal-mart. If you have read any of the reviews of other "cheap" model ellipticals, you will know that most, if not all, do more harm than good. They often-times injure folks with back or joint problems, as they do not produce a low-impact workout. Some fall apart after a few sessions and some never worked properly in the first place. None of this is true with the Exerpeutic 1000Xl. It is an amazing elliptical (this coming from someone who has done over 2 years collectively of OT with ellipticals), in that it's as smooth as a Nordic Track model priced 3X as high. It produces a smooth and consistent motion, making it super easy on my bad joints. It's tension settings really works well, making each consecutive level seem like a consistent progression in resistance. And when it says that it can handle heavy-set folks, it means it. It feels very sturdy and safe, so much so, that I found my kids hanging off one side, after I unpacked it, but it never even tilted. The computer interface works very well, with a scrolling read-out of the amount of time spent on the machine, the amount of calories burned, speed and distance...not to mention the really cool heart-rate monitor that is accurate to +-1 (I checked it against my hospital grade monitor) - plus it only activates when you get on the machine and has an auto-shutdown.All in all, this is a great machine, with no faults sans the "drunk engineers" that put together the directions and the multi-tool. Having a pair of pliers or a socket set will definitely help you with the installation...and some patience with the directions, might not hurt.

4Great price - Good machine!
By A. Williamson
This took about 3 hours to put together. The computer for this machine needs AA batteries -2. The computer only turns on when you start moving on the machine and auto shuts down after about 30-60 seconds of inactivity.I've not played around with the modes or features - I prefer just plain freestyle - but I do wish I could keep the stats from cycling, so I can just keep it on distance covered or one of the other read outs. The best I can do is make it cycle faster when I want to know how far I've gone and how long I've been on.This has different resistances - 1 through 8.I would not use this barefoot or with slippers! Your foot naturally wants to slide forward and you can hurt your toes.I keep a pair of slip on walking shoes next to the machine, so I can use it whenever I want throughout the day.I call this machine the hell machine -hehe- ellipticals always kicked my butt, so this is the perfect machine to help me get back into shape :) I like it better than a treadmill because it's less bulky, and it's no impact, so I'm not pounding and grinding my joints. It's VERY stable. I don't feel it wobble or shift at all. My whole family uses it and everyone likes it.We're VERY pleased with this machine and the convenience of having something here at home is beyond great! I can get on it any time of the day regardless of the weather outside and no dealing with traffic :) It's cheaper than a gym membership (even with the cost of the yoga mat I got for yoga in my living room).
