4So far, so good.......
By Tula B
I was able to buy this at a local sporting goods store for about $800 (Had a coupon). The box is very heavy (over 200lbs i think) and really long. It will for sure take 2 or 3 people to handle it. I decided to tackle the installation myself and read everything twice before performing each step. Needless to say, it took me quite some time to get done. From start to finish was a 5 hour process but i figure i could have done it in about half the time if i was not being extra careful. Make sure you do not unnecessarily over tighten anything. There is no need for herculean force to tighten the bolts. Also, avoid power tools if possible. No major issues were noted during the assembly. However, it is advisable to have some latex gloves, hand soap and wipes handy as there is some lubrication/greasing to be done and it does get quite messy. Now on to the actual usage itself. This machine rocks! I know it is not commercial grade but in close to a month with several household members using it for at least an hour or more each day (combined), there has not been any major problems. There was a squeak the second day of use coming from the roller under the foot pad. This was easily solved with the white grease included in the box. Proform does not call for the usage of the grease during assembly but they do mention it in the maintenance section to correct squeaks. Apart from that, a little adjustment had to be made to a slightly loose and noisy foot pad. Now, some not so good observations. The fan is not that great. It is loud on the highest setting but does provide some air to your face/body. However, i recommend you purchase a real fan if you are one of those that needs it. The on-board one is not a replacement for the real thing. The on-board speakers are a joke. You will probably get better sound quality from the speakers on your mobile phone. The biggest annoyance for me is that the big 7 inch display does not allow you to input your actual weight and set and save your own personal program. Instead, everything is done through their "ifit" program that requires a $99 module purchase upfront and monthly or yearly fees after the first year. It is really annoying that a large person and a small person working out at the same intensity will have the same calories burnt displayed. Having said all that, i love losing weight in the comfort of my own home! I will add some pictures later on to the main section and will come back periodically to update this review.Update 09/22/12: Its been about 6 months of use and it is still holding up. It squeaks a little but that is expected after the use it is getting. Time to tighten things down and use some grease i guess.

1TERRIBLE PRODUCT, EVEN WORSE CUSTOMER SVC
By EMoore78
I received this machine on 5/30, and as of today, 7/27, I am still unable to use it. After turning it on the first time, the incline ramp went all the way up and it couldn't be adjusted using the console. Proform customer svc sent a tech after I waited 2 weeks for a new motor. After installing the new motor, the tech found the motor wasn't the problem, that it was actually the console. Proform refused to send a new console, saying the technician didn't know it was the console for a fact, and sent new wiring for him to "try" instead. From this I can only gather Proform has little confidence in their own technicians' capabilities, or they enjoy wasting their customers' time. The tech installed new wiring on 7/20 and, and to our lack of surprise, it didn't work. Proform customer service then allowed the tech to order a new console on 7/20 and now, after waiting a week for it, I am being told it was just shipped out on 7/26. I will probably not be able to use this machine until August, if it even works then. I'm so disgusted, and I can't believe the lack of customer service on Proform's part. If this console doesn't work, I'm afraid the machine is going back and Proform has lost a customer for life. Save your money, don't make the same mistake as me.

5Quality Machine for an Economical Price!
By Margaret
My wife has the Amazon account but this is her husband doing the review.I don't know about the naysayers' reviews but this elliptical is great! I ordered it from Amazon in June of 2012. I assembled it a couple of months later. The box arrived beat up and I was concerned that the machine had been damaged. The only damage wound up being the top silver part of the cover over the flywheel. The damage does not show at all and I was able to get the cover to fit without the attaching screws at the bottom of the silver part. I have decided to just live with it since it is cosmetic damage that is not apparent. You DO have to read and follow the assembly instructions carefully. It is fairly easy to assemble but it does take a few hours if you take your time to do it properly. After I began using the elliptical, I discovered that the ramp would not raise and lower via the left hand stationary handlebar. After disassembly of several plastic covers, I discovered that I had left an electrical cannon plug disconnected. This was because I had mistakenly understood that this cannon plug was for connection of the optional heart monitor. I connected the wires and reassembled the unit. Voila, the ramp raises and lowers from the handlebar as well as the main console!I love this elliptical! I bought it because I love to work out on the Precor EFX 576i when I stay at Hilton Hotel properties but could not afford the price, even used. By adjusting the foot pads, the Proform 18.0 RE duplicates the natural motion of your ankles so that your heels do not come up off of the foot pads just like the Precor. I have injured the tendons in my foot once when I was over ambitious on a Nordic Track ski machine. There is no danger of that with the natural motion of this machine. I found that adjusting the footpads to the number 2 setting feels the most comfortable for my feet. It is easy on the knee joints as well. I am 6 foot 4 and I don't have any trouble with the stride on this machine. When I fully incline the ramp, I am huffing and puffing in no time and have to take it back down to the 15 degree setting. The motion of this machine is very smooth and quiet also just like the Precor. The left arm on my machine makes a very slight clicking sound at the bottom joint when I use it. I just ignore it and keep on trucking. I figure I need to make some adjustment to the plastic cover over that joint. This machine will challenge you physically and that is good. However, if you start slow and work up to more and more challenging routines, you will be rewarded by the enjoyment you get out of using a quality machine. To me it feels just like a Precor without the high price.Yes, the fan is cheap and makes noise but it is not THAT loud. It is not a deal breaker. It is a very small motor driving a double length plastic squirrel cage fan. I find that when I begin to perspire, I turn the fan on high and it blows just enough air up on my chin to keep the sweat from dripping. Once I get warmer, I turn on my Borg vertical fan to help cool down my torso. I keep a towel hanging on a stationary handlebar to handle the heavy stuff on my face and neck once I am up to peak speed. The cup holder in the middle is nice to keep my squirt bottle of water. I also like the very large, bright blue computer display. It gives the number of strides, your pulse rate when you are holding the stationary wands, elapsed time and mileage. I use the lap display to challenge me to go farther.I follow the instructions to plug the unit in only after I stretch and I'm ready to get on the elliptical. Then I turn it on and give the computer a second to calibrate. Once the display is up, I hop on and away I go! Once I'm done, I get off, turn off the machine and then promptly unplug it. I figure this will help protect the circuit board and give the computer longer life without burning it out.So, no real complaints. Amazon has never disappointed and you should expect when receiving shipments by truck that the box will be beat up. The test is whether or not the goods inside were damaged. If they are, that is not Amazon's fault. You agreed to accept shipment by truck. From what I know, Amazon will take it back if damaged. We can all expect perfection all of the time but the world isn't always perfect. The Proform 18.0 RE Elliptical is a great, quality machine and is perfect for my needs. I have been using it off and on now for 8 months and it has not disappointed.REMEMBER, take your time when assembling the machine. Read the instructions carefully and assemble the parts carefully.
